When Did the First Sin Occur?

When Eve ate the fruit from the good/evil knowledge tree.

I thought I knew the answer to this question. It turns out that Bible scholars struggle with this answer. So let’s define sin, from a children’s lesson, it is – “anything you think, say or do that breaks God’s laws or makes Him sad”. Now, armed with that definition, Eve DECIDED to sin, that was the first sin. BUT, the death that came to all the world came when Adam ate the fruit. We are often tempted to do wrong, that is not sin! With perseverance in battling that temptation we grow strong character and moral fiber. Like oak compared to pine, tough and able to bear weight.

And on the other side which is the solution, life doesn’t come to mankind because of Jesus’ good life, his miracles or amazing preaching. It came by his death and resurrection!

Romans 5 verses 19 says “For as by one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.” (ESV). You may notice, it says the many and not all. How does one activate this fix for our sin problem? Through believing that Jesus did what He said He did, which is called faith. Having a bridge over a gorge is of no value to you unless you walk across on it. That is God’s provision for you. The angels wish they could. But you can! All of heaven is rooting for you and I am too!

It is as easy as one, two, three, done. Admit you are a sinner (no brainer). Believe Jesus died for your sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, and raised to life on the 3rd day according to the scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3 & 4). And confess to God that you have sinned against Him. He knows your thoughts so He doesn’t need you to tell Him what He knows, but YOU need to admit that you know that you have offended the one and only holy God.
