I am a hugger. But, did you know to hug is never mentioned in the Bible. In many countries where Jesus and the early church went, as well as the Bible, greeting with a holy kiss is mentioned and encouraged, maybe even commanded.
So why all the hugging. I can even encourage a friend with a greeting card which reads, sending you a “virtual” hug. When did this change occur and why?
Hugging can be awkward – many teens pull away from hugs. Gushy aunts are known for their eww hugs. Jesus took the little children in his arms and blessed them (Mark 10:16). The lover in Song of Solomon speaks of the lover’s embrace.
So, I may conclude, hugging is another place we have drifted away from real obedience. More research is needed on this subject. I will be searching for an honest answer.
